CLUB: Waikato R.C. @ Te Rapa

The course includes a steeplechase track with spectacular viewing of the jumps down the front straight and has training facilities for up to 100 horses currently in work at Te Rapa.

Te Rapa Racecourse

Driving Directions to the Course
 
Te Rapa Racecourse is located to the north of the city on SH1, Te Rapa Road, Hamilton.

On race day access is easiest off Te Rapa Road into Sir Tristram Avenue, which is located on the LHS of Te Rapa Road travelling north.

Entrance to Sir Tristram Avenue is sign posted between the National Bank building and Fairview Motors car yard, on the opposite side of the road from the Super Liquor Te Rapa outlet.

Away from race days, access is only available via Ken Browne Drive at the southern entrance. This is located from the roundabout off Garnet Avenue after turning left at the traffic lights on Te Rapa Road for motorists travelling north.

There is an admission charge of $10 per person for those over 18 on Saturday, 10 December 2011, $5 on Saturday, 17 December 2011 and $10 on Saturday, 11 February 2012.

Entry to all other Te Rapa racedays is free including car parking

Membership costs are $75 (inc. GST) for two people and a number of race meetings throughout the year host special functions for the exclusitivity of members to enjoy.

There is ample car parking for patrons, food and refreshments, eftpos facilities etc.

Facilities: The Kentucky Lounge is the Members facility.  There is a children’s playground on course.

Hospitality: There are seven private suites available to people wishing to entertain corporate guests.  Various menus and beverage options are available.

Non racedays: Te Rapa is also home to Te Rapa Conference & Function Centre. With a park like setting right in Hamilton, this modern facility has several well appointed lounges offering tasteful decor, lift access, wheelchair access, ample off street parking, and all rooms have a bar and dance floor. Te Rapa Track Info:

Te Rapa is a symmetrical left-handed track with a circumference of 1788 metres.

The straight’s are 402.34 metres long, the bends are 491.66 metres, and the width is 30 metres. The straight length to the winning post is 386.36 metres. Facilities for the 90 horses trained on the track each month include one sand, one plough, and two grass training tracks. The main track is not used for training purposes.

Well drained track that does not become too heavy. Inside draw a distinct advantage at the 1000m start. Best to draw inside barrier 6 at the 1200m. All other starting points wide draws can be overcome.
