CLUB: Otago R.C. @ Wingatui
The Club was first established in 1862 and moved to its present location Wingatui in 1899. They race approximately nine times a year, hosting two meetings in Central Otago, at Cromwell racecourse and the rest at Wingatui racecourse. Otago holds the record of being the first Club in New Zealand to exceed 100,000 pound turnover in one day. Wingatui is the strategic racing and training centre in the Otago region and hosts all the region’s Group and Listed races. The Club has been enjoying a resurgence in popularity and high attendances have led to the allocation of its first Premier meeting license in 2007.

Wingatui Racecourse
Wingatui racecourse is on Gladstone Road, 12 kms south of Dunedin. On Melbourne Cup Day, the Taieri Gorge train runs to Wingatui carrying the carriages’ full capacity of 400 racegoers.

Non raceday facilities: The Committee takes an active part in the running of the Club’s race day and non-race day affairs. Wingatui, a picturesque racecourse, is also a popular function centre hosting numerous conference and functions. Weddings are also plentiful.
Hospitality: Wingatui will boast a trackside dining facility where racegoers can reserve a table with views overlooking the track and birdcage, whilst being table served food from an a la carte menu. To book call 03 489 6233.
On Melbourne Cup day there is an extensive range of hospitality packages available. Packages are now also available for Dunedin Gold Cup day in February.
