Rush Munro Hawke’s Bay Spring Carnival 2011

Excitement is building in the lead up to the 2011 Rush Munro Hawke’s Bay Spring Racing Carnival. With fashion, entertainment and a smorgasbord of premier racing across three top racedays, the Carnival that ignites the NZ racing season really does have it all!

Makfi Challenge Stakes Premier Raceday

Saturday 27th August 2011

The first day of the trifecta of racing is the day when the sound of hoof beats awakens us all from the slumber of winter. The excitement of Group I racing rings the bell and the racing fraternity get their first taste of what promises to be yet another superb season of racing.

The first leg of the Spring Racing Triple Crown is the Group 1 $200,000 Makfi Challenge Stakes. As expected all of the big guns of NZ Racing have shown their cards and are coming to Hastings to do battle.

As well as hot racing action this is a great family day out with something to tickle everyone’s fancy. We have free children’s entertainment including bouncy castles, mini jeeps and face painting, along with a scrumptious sausage sizzle. Of course the adults are not forgotten, there will be a food precinct, and the opportunity to get up close and personal with the best horseflesh around. What a way to get out and enjoy the best that the Bay has to offer!

Windsor Park Plate Premier Raceday

Saturday 17th September 2011

The second leg of the Triple Crown will this year embrace the fever of that “Rugby competition” that is sweeping across Hawkes Bay. Make a real weekend of it and come and warm up for the rugby action the next day here on course. We will be showing two of the games within our Cheval rooms on a big screen. Just bring your rugby ticket for free admission to our Racing and Rugby lounge, where big screens will load your senses with two of our greatest loves! Also watch out for a few rugby legends who will be on course to point out a winner on both forms of the turf!

On the track, racing action moves up a notch with the second leg of the Triple Crown. Group 1 glory awaits yet another star in the Windsor Park Plate. Traditionally considered one of the country’s highest rated races, this weight for age mile contest is as tough as a Afrikaans Lock Forward to win, with last year’s winner Wall Street heading the field, he is sure to be there when the whips crack and the crowd roars!

The New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year series takes defining steps as the time honoured Hawke’s Bay Breeders Gold Trial Stakes showcases the equine debutantes. A traditional “first dance” for many of the star fillies, make sure you are trackside to see yet another fast filly etch their name on the honours board.

With a top days racing and some keen rugby matches thrown in, get you and your mates together and set your sights on Hastings racecourse.
