This has traditionally been a very popular fixture attracting large crowds. The day is actively promoted as a Family Day with a variety of giveaways and entertainment for children.

There is an old grandstand at Waikouaiti which is considered one of the character grandstands of the South Island. It provides “head on” viewing down the front straight. Unfortunately the top section, which was a magnificent vantage point has been closed over the last few years. The courses greatest asset is a hill that runs the length of 400 metre finishing straight. This has been a popular picnickers location for over 100 years.
