RACECOURSE: Wanganui
Wanganui has been home to the Wanganui Jockey Club since 1848 and as such they are the oldest racing club in New Zealand still operating on the original land. The racing surface is a sand-based 1700 metre track offering a very good year-round racing surface, and offers excellent viewing from all levels. The racecourse is only minutes from the city centre, with several motels are in close proximity.

The 2010 HS Dyke Wanganui Guineas was won by Fiddler, and the Fordell O’Leary’s Fillies Stakes were taken out by the local connections to Rememba Howe. This day also provides top three year old racing early in the season.
Saturday 27 November 2010 – Wanganui Cup Day
This Christmas at the Races meeting features the $50K Listed race the Cambridge Thoroughbred Sales Wanganui Cup which was won by Loose Change in 2010.
A great day was had by all with excellent weather, a fantastic track for great racing, and plenty of entertainment for the crowd including a mascot race, GG Glory races and a Tui footrace where contestants had an opportunity to win a years worth of Tui beer! Hayden Tinsley won the Jockeys Challenge and took home his weight in Tui as well.
The Wanganui Trotting Club have their annual meeting here on Sunday 19 December 2010.
