One of the most memorable racedays in the Club’s history took place in 1935 when the Duke of Gloucester attended the Club’s New Year meeting and rode T. A. Duncan's Black Man to come fourth in the Ladies Bracelet. The Club has conducted their racemeetings at Awapuni Racecourse (Palmerston North) since 1980. The Club races 4 times a year with the big Group 3 Merial Metric Mile in September, the Listed Gallagher Group Marton Cup in January and the Marton Supporters Raceday headlining their three Saturday feature meetings.

Feature Meeting:
Merial Metric Mile – Saturday 11 September
The Merial Metric Mile Raceday is the major racemeeting of the year for the Marton Jockey Club. With total stakes of $163,000, including $70,000 in the Group Three Merial Metric Mile, this meeting draws the best horses from throughout the country - including New Zealand’s leading milers.
The Marton Jockey Club’s Gallagher Group Marton Cup Day is one of the regions best summer race meetings. Marton Cup Day is ideally placed on the racing calendar, providing a valuable lead-up to the rich Century City Developments Wellington Cup run a fortnight later at Trentham.
From 2008, the Marton Cup racemeeting has been upgraded to a Premier Licence. The feature race on the programme, the Gallagher Group Marton Cup, will be run for a stake of $50,000. Total stakes on offer will be $290,000, which will provide strong incentive for the best horses, trainers and jockeys to travel to Awapuni for the day.

Entry to Awapuni Racecourse is free for all Marton Jockey Club meetings except for Marton Cup Day in January- $5.

The Awapuni Lounge situated on the first floor of the members stand is for our valued members only. Members will also have opportunity to reserve a table at a discount to advertised rates on those days that the Silks Lounge is available.
