Race 1: BERYL’S HURDLE
BOB THE BUILDER (J Rathbone) jumped the first fence awkwardly.
Approaching the home straight, after leaving the inside course, positions became tight when angling for the course proper, which resulted in WAIKIKI PRINCE (M Browne), which was making a run on the inside, bumping MEXICAN WAVE (J Riddell), who in turn shifted outwards on to DON’T CASH IT (C Johnson), which became unbalanced.
The leader, DANCING PRINCE (I Lupton), fell at the last fence, dislodging the rider.
DON’T CASH IT (C Johnson) fell when attempting to avoid the fallen horse; both horses and riders were unhurt.
Race 2: RUGBY, RACING & BRUNCH AT TRAX 9 JUNE 3yo
Nothing to report.
Race 3: STELLA ARTOIS MILE
LORD MONTY (C Johnson) was slow away and settled back.
TAKE THREE (P Bell) was a little disappointing. When questioned, Jockey Bell stated that the horse could not quicken in the puggy ground.
Race 4: CAPITAL CITY FORD OWNERS DAY 9 JUNE “2200”
The start was delayed approximately 2 minutes 41 seconds after GANDYBOY had to be replated.
GANDYBOY (P Holmes) was inclined to over-race in the run down the straight on the first occasion.
GOLD HEIST (S Fieldes) raced keenly in the run down the back straight.
SAINT IRIS (D Walker) finished a long last. When questioned, Jockey Walker stated that the horse pulled hard over the early and middle stages and had nothing left at the finish. SAINT IRIS underwent a veterinary inspection, which revealed filling in the left hind leg.
The favourite, SWIPE (H Tinsley), after racing handy in the early stages faded in the home straight and finished well back.. Trainer J Lynds advised the stewards that he would consider spelling the gelding.
Race 5: THE ULTIMATE VENUE SPRINT
The start was delayed 1 minute 11 seconds after GEE BABY (D Walker) refused to enter its stall and was declared a late scratching. Trainer G Laursen was advised that the horse must perform satisfactorily at three official barrier trials before next starting at a totalisator meeting.
REGAL HABIT (P Bell) was slow to begin.
Near the 150m TOWZAN (B Herd) had to steady when getting on the heels of AL DAHAR (T Sasada), and shifted in slightly, simultaneously as REGAL HABIT (P Bell) improved into a run that presented itself on the inside of JAM TART (J Parkes). This resulted in the weakening JAM TART being buffeted for several strides, becoming unbalanced, clipping a heel, and blundering badly. After viewing all video films and interviewing all riders concerned the incident was deemed accidental, and no further action was required as no blame could be attributed to any one rider.
Race 6: UPPER HUTT COSSIE CLUB CUP
JOINT EFFORT (S Fieldes) was slow to begin.
REEL SECRET (P Holmes) had to be steadied when crowded by BENNYOSLER (K Collins), which shifted in slightly passing the 2000m.
WAR DANCER (P Bell) returned to the enclosure minus two front plates.
Both REEL SECRET and MACSVOLT underwent veterinary inspections after performing poorly, with no abnormality detected in either case. Jockey P Holmes, the rider of REEL SECRET, could offer no excuses for the effort. C Johnson, the rider of MACSVOLT, attributed the poor run to the slow track.
Race 7: FIRST SOVEREIGN TRUST TRENTHAM GOLD CUP
When questioned regarding the riding instructions of THE BIGHEARTED (P Bell), which settled back today, Jockey Bell advised the stewards that his intention was to go forward early, but he was unable to muster the necessary early speed to obtain a forward position.
ARREVIDERCI (T Sasada) was a little slow to begin and in the final straight was inclined to hang inwards under pressure.
A GREAT LIFE (D Walker) was held up for some distance and unable to improve approaching the home straight.
Race 8: WINDSOR PARK STUD GALAXY STAKES F&M
DEWOFTHESEA (D Walker) got back after a tardy beginning and raced wide throughout.
ABIT RUSTY (C Johnson) was continuously held up for room in the home straight.
Race 9: SMOKEFREE “1400”
Shortly after the start BON TON ROULA (C Anderson) rolled outwards after crossing to the fence and tightened MANY DANSKE (J Parkes).
Approaching the 800m mark THE SCOUT (P Holmes) was eased off the heels of a runner ahead and in doing so forced ZAREDA (P Bell) outwards on to DAN AME (M Tanaka) who was carted wide.
SHARP STEAL (R Hannam) had to be continuously steadied when racing fiercely, close to heels, in the early stages.
Near the 200m mark KING CON (T Sasada) ducked in sharply into the line of WILLOWBANK (S Fieldes), and had to be straightened.
BEV’S CHOICE (T Johnson) was held up for several strides in the early part of the home straight.
Near the 200m BALLINA STAR (R Bishop) had to be eased off the heels of the runner ahead and was angled inwards in search of a run.
GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY (D Bradley) was not persevered with over the final stages, as rider D Bradley considered that something was amiss with his mount. GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY returned to the enclosure favouring the offside leg.
