RACE 1:     SPORTY’S BAR & CAF� NEW PLYMOUTH 1200
Race 1 ran 1 minute 14 seconds late due to several horses proving difficult to load.
ALIQUA (T Thornton) and MONDIALE’S GIRL (T Harris) both reared leaving the barriers, losing ground.
Shortly after the start ALIQUA commenced to race in a ungenerous manner and near the 800 metres ran wide.
Approaching the 800 metres HOP HONOR (A Peard) got its head up when being restrained and over raced for a short distance.
The favourite MADE MY POINT (M Du Plessis) was obliged to race three wide without cover for the majority of the event.
SPECIAL BLEND (C Ormsby) was held up until approaching the 250 metres.
BANSHEE LADY (D Johnson) failed to find clear racing room in the final straight.
ALIQUA and STORMER (C Grylls) were inclined to lay in in the final straight.
S Spratt (SPANISH AFFAIR) dropped her whip near the 300 metres.
Approaching the 100 metres SPECIAL BLEND shifted in under pressure hampering MONDIALE’S GIRL which then changed ground to the outside of that runner. A short distance further on MONDIALE’S GIRL was again inconvenienced when SPECIAL BLEND shifted out making contact with MADE MY POINT. Rider T Harris was advised by of his obligations when riding his mounts out.

RACE 2:     CLIVE & BARBARA THOMSON 1200
Passing the 1000 metres CONCERTO (M Du Plessis) had to steady when tightened for room to the inside of CALADESI (S Spratt) which shifted in.
Passing the 800 metres AMARYLLIS (L Innes) and PRINCESS ROAD (M Vance) were tightened when ROUGH ODDS (N Collett) shifted in dictating CONCERTO (M Du Plessis) into the line of PRINCESS ROAD. PRINCESS ROAD had to steady as a result. Apprentice Jockey N Collett was told she must ensure that she is sufficiently clear when shifting ground.
Jockey S Spratt was questioned with regards to the disappointing performance of the favourite CALADESI. S Spratt stated she felt the mare would be better suited with more racing room as she had been a little reluctant to take gaps when they had presented themselves. The Stewards ordered a post race veterinary examination of CALADESI which did not reveal any obvious abnormalities.

RACE 3:     GOODWIN REALTY LTD/RAY WHITE 1200
JANE LOUR (M Vance) began awkwardly and then raced greenly in the early stages losing ground. JANE LOUR continued to race greenly making the 800 metre bend very awkwardly, racing wide.
TIBOUCHINA (N Collett) and GEE OH (M Wenn) were both slow away.
PRIMITIVA (C Ormsby) began awkwardly.
TIBOUCHINA and RUMRAT (M Sweeney) both over-raced in the middle stages with RUMRAT easing off heels passing the 800 metres, thereafter RUMRAT was obliged to race wide for the remainder of the event
ANITA PEA (T Thornton) over-raced through the middle stages.
BON GENIE (L Innes) raced greenly in the final straight.

RACE 4:     BARRY J HART 2200
CALL THE CAT (C Ormsby) bounded on jumping and settled back.
Shortly after the start TRADITIO (V Colgan) and MOCHACCINO MISS (M Wenn) made contact. TRADITIO then commenced to shift inwards crowding MOCHACCINO MISS which had to be steadied off the heels of PETER BE (BR Jones). Rider V Colgan was issued with a warning under Rule 638(1)(d).
VOLKSHAH (R Rattley) raced wide without cover throughout.

RACE 5:     AUSSIE BUTCHER 1600
Race 5 ran 1 minute 3 seconds late due to SARGENT (V Colgan) arriving late to the barriers.
THE LAST BUOY (C Ormsby) and VARNISH (J Whiteside) were both slow to begin.
MARADA (S Collett) began awkwardly, shifting out and losing ground.
VARNISH made the junction on to the Course Proper awkwardly, shifting in placing the rider at a significant disadvantage for a short distance. J Whiteside was shown the films.
MARADA over-raced through the early and middle stages.
Approaching the 800 metres VARNISH shifted off the heels of LORD MANNA (R Norvall) hampering ODIN (M Hills).
Near the 800 metres MARADA skied its head when being restrained and shiftingout, MARADA was then obliged to race wide without cover.
MARADA raced greenly in the final straight and was inconvenienced approaching the 300 metres when VARNISH shifted out.
Jockey M Coleman was questioned with regards to the disappointing performance of the favourite VERMILLION. M Coleman stated that VERMILLION had not travelled well at any stage of the race and had not responded when asked for an effort. M Coleman further stated that he felt the removal of blinkers had a bearing on the horse’s performance. Trainer P Duncan stated that the blinkers would be re-applied at the mare’s next start. The Stewards ordered a post race veterinary examination of VERMILLION which did not reveal any obvious abnormalities.
Trainers G & D Rogerson admitted a breach under Rule 616(2)(a) in that they presented MARADA to race without notified gear and fined $100.

RACE 6:     AUCKLAND CO-OP TAXIS 1600
Due to an administrative error the connections of MIGHTY RULER were permitted to race the horse in blinkers/pacifiers.
THE GODDAUGHTER (M Du Plessis) was slow away.
GOLD MESSAGE (M Vance) began awkwardly, losing ground.
CROWNED (G McKeon) began a little awkwardly and then was further inconvenienced when INDRANI JENNA (M Wenn) shifted out.
Passing the 1400 metres MIGHTY RULER (A Peard) shifted in off the heels of EKRAANA (S Spratt) when over-racing.
DEFOX (C Grylls) was obliged to race three wide without cover.
JUNGLE SOLDIER (V Colgan) was held up passing the 400 metres then near the 200 metres was angled wider to improve. Near the 100 metres JUNGLE SOLDIER when attempting a narrow run to the outside of ME CHINA PLATE (Z Razali) was dictated wider when that runner lay out. As a result JUNGLE SOLDIER shifted ground outwards and bumped the tiring DEFOX which became unbalanced for a short distance.
THE GODDAUGHTER was held up between the 300 metres and 200 metres.
GOLD MESSAGE was unable to obtain clear running until inside the final 100 metres.

RACE 7:     WOOTTONS AUTO ACCESSORIES 1200
KEEP THINKING (J Collett) was slow away.
PHEROZ CROWN (R Norvall) raced three wide throughout without cover.
THE CLOSER (G McKeon) shifted out under pressure over the final 100 metres.
TRIPLE EX (M Vance) had difficulty obtaining clear running in the final straight.

RACE 8:     HS DYKE 1600
Following this race R Norvall, the rider of SARAH SAN, wished to view the video footage over the concluding stages with respect to lodging an objection. After viewing all relevant films he did not proceed.
Shortly after leaving the barrier SARAH SAN was badly crowded for a short distance when REDIYME (M Du Plessis) shifted out, SARAH SAN then clipped a heel and losing ground.
VIA VENETO (L Innes) over-raced badly in the early stages having to be steadied off heels for some distance. VIA VENETO continued to over-race through the middle stages.
Approaching the 300 metres VIA VENETO shifted out placing WHIRITOA BAY (BR Jones) in restricted room to the inside of BOLD FIONN (D Johnson) for a short distance.
Inside the final 100 metres VIA VENETO shifted in under pressure, crowding SARAH SAN for a short distance.
Rider M Du Plessis informed the Stewards that REDIYME had hung outwards throughout.
Rider L Innes reported that VIA VENETO may have been feeling the effects of the firm nature of today’s footing.

RACE 9:     BEN SPARTA 2200
COUNTRY DANE (A Calder) began awkwardly.
Approaching the 1700 metres MISS VENTO (V Ho) had to be steadied off the heels of SUPERCHARGED (J Collett) which made the corner awkwardly. Shortly after DRAKKAR (T Thornton) had to be steadied when over-racing.
SPANNER (M Sweeney) was obliged to race wide through the early and middle stages.
SLAVADAAD (D Johnson) raced keenly through the middle stages.
Jockey A Calder was questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the favourite COUNTRY DANE. A Calder stated that COUNTRY DANE had made ground fairly off what he had described as an only moderate pace, adding that COUNTRY DANE is better suited when races are run at a faster tempo.
QUETZALCOATL lost an off fore plate during the running.
