RACE 1:
OTAGO TYRES MAIDEN 1600m
VOODOO VIXEN (L Robinson) lost its footing when jumping away losing ground. JADED (J Collett), EDICT (J Bates) and APOLOGIZE (J Bullard) were slow away. HEZAHALO (C Johnson) over raced in the early and middle stages.
HEAVEN’S UP HERE (I Khairil) raced three wide without cover.
WHODATAP (D Stackhouse) raced wide throughout.
VITAL GEM (S Muniandy) was inconvenienced over the concluding stages by GUITARZAN (R Hannam) which was taken out by GO GEORGIA (J Misbah). When question on the poor performance of EDICT, J Bates advised that in his opinion the gelding was feeling the firm nature of the footing. A post race veterinary examination of EDICT did not reveal any abnormalities.
RACE 2: SPEIGHT’S MAIDEN 1200m
The start of this race was 1 min 13 sec late due to MAKATAK (L Allpress) proving difficult to load.
STRIPES (J Bullard) was slow away.
DICANIO (A Tempelman) had to be steadied off the heels of HEARTS ARE (J Laking) shortly after the start.
S Collet the rider of WAITING FOR COD lost her whip when leaving the barrier.
When questioned on their riding tactics jockeys D Bradley (STRATEGIC TURBO) and A Mundy (BELLONET) both advised that their riding instructions had been to go forward. D Bradley further stated that his mount had raced very keenly and would not come back to him when he attempted to ease. A Mundy also stated that her mount had been inclined to race keenly in the early stages with blinkers applied for the first time. A Mundy concurred with the Stewards view that she should however have attempted to ease into a trail in the middle stages. A Mundy was advised that she would be expected to show better judgment in the future.
LISBOA (R Hannam) was held up early in the final straight.
ADON QUAY (N Collett) was inclined to lay in under pressure in the final straight and ducked inwards sharply when struck with the whip near the 150m having to be straightened by its rider. Following the race N Collett advised that the mare had felt a little indifferent in its action. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
RACE 3: WHK SPRINT RATING 70 1200m
ACE OF DIAMONDS (L Robinson) began awkwardly and made contact with PACKING SUPREME (M Carston).
SABLE NOIR (Z Zulkifli) shifted outwards when jumping away inconveniencing DIAMOND JULES (C Spittles), SKARZ (J Bates), CALLYSTAR (J Laking) and AUNTIE BRAM (A Mundy).
When rounding the bend into the final straight near the 350m BRING IT ON (S Muniandy) rolled out and hampered SKARZ.
L Robinson was suspended from the conclusion of racing today Saturday 6 February until the conclusion of racing on Friday 19th February after admitting a charge of careless riding in that he allowed his mount ACE OF DIAMONDS to shift outwards near the 300m when not sufficiently clear of BRING IT ON which was checked.
RACE 4: BALLANTINE’S FINEST WHISKY RATING 70 1400m
ST BERNARD (R Myers) and LA GEM (Z Zulkifli) came together when jumping away.
BANDIT (KC Walters) and GEORGIE’S WAY (D Bradley) were both crowded shortly after the start.
DR DEE BEE (J Laking) over raced in the early and middle stages and was inclined to get its head up when being steadied.
KC Walters (BANDIT) was spoken to regarding his whip use in the final straight.
RACE 5: WESTERN PACIFIC INSURANCE DUNEDIN GUINEAS 1400m
CASSIUS (D Bothamley) shifted in when jumping away hampering KING PRAWN (D Stackhouse) which was forced onto the hind quarters of TEA FOR TWO (N Collett).
DORIS BROOK (L Robinson) began awkwardly and shifted out making contact with CHAPARELLA (K Williams).
R Hannam admitted a charge of careless riding in that he permitted his mount SHUTTLEWORTH to shift inwards passing the 1000m when not sufficiently clear of THE BEEKEEPER (J Collett) which was checked. After hearing all relevant submissions R Hannam was suspended from the conclusion of racing on Sunday 14th February until the conclusion of racing on Saturday 20th February, 4 riding days.
THE BEEKEEPER was held up near the 300m.
AL MAAHA (J Bullard) was held up until near the 200m in the final straight.
Near the 250m OUR BEE JAY (D Bradley) shifted out to obtain clear running inconveniencing TEA FOR TWO which shifted away from OUR BEE JAY. Also inconvenienced was THE BEEKEEPER.
J Bullard was suspended from the conclusion of racing today until the conclusion of racing on Friday 19 February 2010 after admitting a charge of careless riding in that he permitted his mount AL MAAHA to shift outwards near the 150m when not sufficiently clear of CHAPARELLA which was hampered with THE BEEKEEPER inconvenienced.
RACE 6:
CRAIGS INVESTMENT PARTNERS ECLIPSE STAKES 1200m
KETCHIBEN (T Moseley) began awkwardly.
Shortly after the start THISTLE (C Johnson) had to be steadied off the heels of ZEDDANE (D Bradley) which shifted in. D Bradley was advised to exercise care.
ZEDDANE then over raced in the middle stages.
KETCHIBEN had to be steadied off the heels of ZEDDANE near the 350m.
TURF FIRE (K Williams) was inclined to lay in up the final straight.
RACE 7:
FIRE & MECHANICAL CONTRACTING LTD RATING 80 1400m
TENCHI was declared a late scratching at 3.54pm when it refused to enter the barriers. As a result this race was 1 minute 50 seconds late starting. Trainer P Gerrard was advised that the gelding must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards before racing next.
SLIP INTO SATIN (S Collett) was slow to begin.
INFERNO jumped away awkwardly.
MENALAUS (A Mundy) and EL BEE DEE (J Bates) came together when jumping away.
EL BEE DEE was then crowded by ENVEE (C Spittles) which shifted in. C Spittles was advised to exercise care.
BROCK (J Misbah) and EL CHICO (J Laking) were both over racing going into the bend near the 900m. EL CHICO was then obliged to race three wide without cover for the remainder of the race.
BALZANE (A Denby) raced wide throughout.
BLANCPAIN (J Bullard) blundered near the 150m and shifted outwards hampering BROCK. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
RACE 8:
138TH DUNEDIN CASINO GOLD CUP 2400m
HALF A CHANCE (S Collett) began awkwardly and shifted out hampering BIMAN (T Moseley) and OVERTHELIGN (D Stackhouse).
TURN THE PAGE (J Misbah) began awkwardly.
SHELBY (C Johnson) over raced in the early and middle stages before improving forward to lead near the 900m taking ZABENE (J Collett) over extra ground with ZABENE then racing three wide round the final bend. SHELBY gave ground quickly passing the 400m dropping out to finish a distant last. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
RACE 9:
WHITE ROBE LODGE STAKES 1600m
The start of this event was delayed 2 minutes 58 seconds due to the horses being late to the barrier.
LA VAZZA blundered badly on jumping dislodging apprentice jockey R Myers. R Myers was attended to by the ambulance personnel and transferred to Dunedin Hospital for further evaluation.
DIAMOND SKEEM (N Collett) and AUSSIEAUSSIEAUSSIE (T Moseley) both raced wide throughout.
COUP BLOOMSBURY (L Allpress) over raced in the early and middle stages.
J Bullard admitted a charge of careless riding in that he permitted his mount HOLD IT HARVEY to shift outwards near the 350 metres when not sufficiently clear of COUP BLOOMSBURY which was checked. Also hampered was AUSSIEAUSSIEAUSSIE (T Mosely). After hearing all relevant submissions J Bullard was suspended from the conclusion of racing on Friday 19 February until the conclusion of racing on Thursday 4 March and in addition fined the sum of $750.
Near the 300m JUST US (M Carston) was crowded for room when CAPARISON (J Collett) lay in. JUST US then became awkwardly placed on the heels of TRANSCEND (S Collett) and blundered.
RACE 10:
LYNDSAY MOYLE MEMORIAL TROPHY RATING 70 1600m
The start of this race ran 2 minutes 20 seconds late due to a delay caused by the ambulance personnel attending to apprentice jockey Myers.
HIT THE BIT (J Morris) was slow away.
LUNCHCUTTER (K Williams) knuckled when jumping away.
Passing the 1000m RECONCILE (C Johnson) shifted in slightly when being steadied. LUNCHCUTTER which was racing in tight quarters had to be steadied off the heels of RECONCILE as a result and shifted in hampering CRYSTAL DUKE (J Collett). SO ALBERTA (L Allpress) raced wide throughout.
RECONCILE was held up rounding the final turn.
CAPE FEAR (I Khairil) had to be steadied off the heels of RECONCILE near the 350m.
CRYSTAL DUKE was unable to obtain clear running in the final straight. SMUDGEE (J Laking) had difficulty obtaining clear running until the final 100m. LUNCHCUTTER was held up early in the final straight and when attempting a marginal run through the inside of SHACUSE (J Bullard) made contact with that runner near the 200m. LUNCHCUTTER was again held up shortly after this incident.
RACE 11:
COUPLAND’S BAKERIES LTD RATING 80 2200m
FLYING FRENCHMAN (A Denby) was slow away.
BLUFF (C Spittles) raced three wide without cover throughout.
VINTNER (N Collett) raced wide throughout.
COUP PIE (D Bradley) had difficulty obtaining clear running in the final straight.
