Race One: SMITH SPREADING / PINFOLDS TRANSPORT 2050
Pinzacourt dislodged rider K Collins during the preliminary but was quickly captured. After a veterinary inspection the gelding was declared fit to start.
Matawai (H Tinsley) began awkwardly and was slow away. Bee Gee (R Stam) raced wide throughout.
Race Two: POPE & GRAY CONTRACTORS 2YO
R Myers was examined and cleared by medical staff to ride following a fall the previous day at Dunedin.
Reason and Rhyme (J McDonald) hung outwards from the 800m.
When questioned regarding the performance of Key Point which finished a distant last, L Allpress considered the filly to be a little short in its action but otherwise had no excuses.
Race Three: BALLANCE AGRI-NUTRIENTS 1300
Cool Alibi (B Holland) was slow to begin. Nonu (V Singh) was slow to begin and was further hampered when Cordova Bay (R Myers) shifted out on jumping away.
Passing the 600 metres Nonu had to be steadied off heels for some distance and a little further on shifted out and bumped with Bonns Boy (J McGuinness).
Passing the 500 metres Cool Alibi improved onto the heels of Bonns Boy and had to be steadied.
Rollo (J McDonald) laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
Following this event Apprentice jockey R Myers reported to the stewards that she had aggravated an injury sustained the previous day and stood down from her remaining rides. She was advised that a medical clearance would be required.
Race Four: GLEN ORRIN SOUTHDOWN STUD
Traditional Bride (B Lammas) was very slow to begin. Mystery Woman (D Bradley) which was fractious in the barriers, jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, crowding Up Spirits (A Calder) which lost momentum and settled well back.
Traditional Bride raced wide from the 1200 metres.
Boggard (K Collins) had difficulty obtaining clear running near the 400 metres and was taken wide in order to continue to improve.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of A Thin Red Line, J Riddell could offer no excuses.
Race Five: ON TAP WAIRARAPA LTD METRIC MILE
Master Jake (J McGuinness) was slow away. Macadamia (P Bell) raced three wide without cover for the majority of the race. When questioned regarding the performance of Macadamia, P Bell said that despite being obliged to travel three wide, it was nevertheless disappointing. Connections advised the gelding would be spelled.
Hell Yeah (L Allpress) was held up passing the 400 metres and near the 300m had to steady when attempting a narrow run between Bojangles Boy (M Tanaka) and King Raedwald (H Tinsley ). Hell Yeah was then angled out to improve.
Race Six: BULL4U STAYERS
Shotgun Start (D Bradley) began awkwardly and settled back. Our Destiny (H Tinsley) shifted out on jumping bumping with Master Nagol (M du Plessis) which was taken out into the line of Top Echelon (E Dalley) which lost ground.
Shotgun Start and Sir Dexalar (J McDonald) came together near the 75 metres.
When questioned regarding the performance of Beyond Belief, J Riddell could offer no excuses but said the gelding felt a little short in front. A post-race veterinary examination of Beyond Belief revealed no abnormalities.
H Tinsley stood down for one race following this event.
Race Seven: B & B CONTRACTING WAIRARAPA
Due to the unavailability of a suitable rider at the carded weight, A Calder was given permission to ride Mr Zatopek 1kg over.
Fuji Extreme (M Tanaka) was tightened on jumping away and lost ground. Marty Boy (E Dalley) raced keenly in the early stages. Wai (D Bradley) raced wide without cover in the middle stages. Ben Hogan (J Riddell) had difficulty obtaining clear running throughout the final straight.
Race Eight: TUI BREWERY WAIRARAPA THOROUGHBRED STAKES
H Tinsley who was a late replacement for the injured P Taylor on Possum was given permission to stand down by the Stewards in order to become re-hydrated after being affected by the heat. He was replaced by M Hills.
Lago Rider (D Bradley) was ordered to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards after refusing to jump away with the field and tailing off throughout.
Suitabelle (D Walker) raced wide throughout. Possum (M Hills) was held up for a short distance passing the 400 metres.
Race Nine: MASTERTON 28 MARCH @ TAUHERENIKAU 1300
J Riddell was given permission to stand down from his ride on Neversaynever for this event by the Stewards after becoming fatigued due to the heat.
Meduna underwent and passed a veterinary inspection at the start after dislodging rider L Hemi during the preliminary.
Pronking (R Hannam) was slow away.
H Tinsley admitted a charge of careless riding under Rule 638 (1) (d) in that he allowed his mount Gorse to shift in passing the 1150m when not clear of Meduna (L Hemi) dictating that runner inward into the line of Jungle Talk (L Allpress) which was checked. After hearing all relevant submissions the JCA suspended H Tinsley’s licence from the close of racing on Saturday 13th February up to and including racing on Friday 19th February (4 days) Rider D Bradley reported that his mount Neversaynever hung badly over the concluding stages placing him a a disadvantage. Lemon Honey (M Hills) was held up for some distance until near the 100m where it was angled outwards to improve. Gyuri (A Calder) had to be steadied off heels when weakening over the final stages.
