Along with horses in Races 6 and 8 on Saturday 6 March 2010 all horses in Races 5 and 9 today were pre race blood tested.
RACE 1: RADIO SPORT MILE
SETON BAY which was kicked by another horse en route to the races was examined and passed fit to race by the Club’s Veterinarian.
D Johnson replaced J Morris who was indisposed on GINGA LINI.
STRAIGHT THUNDER (A Webb) began awkwardly.
ALDERNEY (C Grylls) and GRANDISSIMA (D Oliver) were slow to begin.
An investigation was adjourned into an incident that occurred near the 1400 metres when MERCI BEAUCOUP (M Walker) was crowded and checked.
Near the 1200 metres COMPASS POINT (C Ormsby) which was racing erratically shifted in and crowded PURE ILLUSION (M Sweeney) and MERCI BEAUCOUP. C Ormsby was issued with a warning.
J Waddell, the rider of CHOCOLATER, was charged with a breach of Rule 638(1)(d) for careless riding in that near the 1200 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of SETON BAY (M Hills) which was checked and in turn shifted in crowding RAINMAKER (A Peard) with GINGA LINI (D Johnson) which was following clipping heels and blundering. In this incident COMPASS POINT was hampered. After hearing all relevant evidence the Judicial Committee found the charge to be proven with J Waddell suspended from the conclusion of racing on Saturday 13 March until the conclusion of racing on Wednesday 24 March, 5 riding days.
COMPASS POINT was held up for clear running in the early part of the straight.
FRANCILIENNE (J McDonald) which was experiencing difficulty obtaining clear running was inconvenienced near the 100 metres when ASHLEY (N Collett) shifted out under pressure away from COUNT ON (L Innes) which shifted ground out.
Near the 100 metres SKAI GLEN (M Wenn) and ALDERNEY were inconvenienced by PURE ILLUSION which shifted in.
RACE 2: THE NEW ZEALAND HERALD 1200
ALIQUA was a late scratching acting on veterinary advice at 8.40am.
TIBOUCHINA (S Spratt) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out making contact with GOLDEN GATE (M Coleman) which was crowded on to HIGHIMAGE (M Walker) and blundered almost dislodging Rider M Coleman who lost the use of a stirrup iron for some distance. In this incident GOLDEN GATE lost the off fore plate.
RACE 3: THE GUCCI 1100
DOYULYKITLYKTHAT (A Calder) shifted outwards on jumping away inconveniencing CUSTOMISED (M Du Plessis).
GREAT OF FAVOURS (M Walker) was a shade slow to begin.
BOY STAR (O Bosson) had to be steadied shortly after the start when crowded for room by UNDISCLOSED (S Spratt) which was taken in by SHE’S PRESTIGIOUS (C Grylls) which was laying in.
BOY STAR and GREAT OF FAVOURS over-raced in the early and middle stages.
Passing the 200 metres TRIPLE TREAT (M Vance) shifted outwards under pressure and had to be straightened by its rider.
Approaching the 100 metres BOY STAR shifted inwards when struck with the whip hampering SAN LEONARDO (L Innes) which shifted away from BOY STAR and had to be steadied off the heels of TRIPLE TREAT.
RACE 4: DDB SALVER
When questioned regarding the performance of ELBAZ N Harris stated that he had endeavoured to race in a forward position, however in the early stages he was obliged to race three wide so elected to ease back to obtain cover. N Harris further added that in the middle stages he improved on ELBAZ as he was of the opinion the horse would not have been able to sprint with the field when the pace quickened but that rounding the home turn ELBAZ felt flat. Once placed under pressure in the straight ELBAZ continued to finish the race off moderately. A post race veterinary examination of ELBAZ revealed no apparent abnormalities.
RACE 5: MERCEDES-BENZ SUNLINE VASE
PEACE LILLY (M Coleman) was very slow to begin losing several lengths.
ADALINE (L Innes) began awkwardly and knuckled.
LADY CHAPARRAL (G McKeon) shifted outwards when jumping away crowding CORSAGE (M Rodd).
EXQUISITE CHOICE (M Cameron) got its head up when being steadied passing the winning post on the first occasion.
A CHANCE TO DREAM (M Du Plessis) made the crossing near the 1600 metres awkwardly and contacted the running rail.
ADALINE raced three wide without cover around the first bend.
Passing the 1400 metres LADY CHAPARRAL which was racing keenly shifted out and made contact with SAVABEEL STAR (S Spratt). SAVABEEL STAR then commenced to over-race and was obliged to race three wide.
In the early part of the straight C’MON CUBA (D Oliver) shifted out and made contact with ADALINE. In this incident LADY CHAPARRAL was inconvenienced.
PEZZAGLIA (J McDonald) was retired out of the race in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have sustained an injury to its near fore knee.
ADALINE lost the off front plate during the running.
RACE 6: TELECOM 1200
M Tanaka was replaced by C Ormsby on PHLORUM. The Stewards will interview M Tanaka into the reason why he did not fulfil his engagement.
D Oliver replaced M Zahra as the rider of MERRYMAKER.
MERRYMAKER (D Oliver) began awkwardly.
OXBOROUGH MAGIC (L Innes) and POSITIVE FIREFLY (M Du Plessis) were slow to begin.
PHLORUM (C Ormsby) over-raced in the early stages. VILYA (T Harris) got its head up when awkwardly placed on the heels of that runner.
ELLEYECEE (T Thornton) and SAM’S TOWN (J McDonald) were held up in the early part of the straight.
Near the 350 metres FLOWER GIRL (M Hills) was steadied when hampered by VILYA which shifted in when awkwardly placed on the heels of PHLORUM as that runner shifted in. T Harris was issued with a warning.
Near the 150 metres OXBOROUGH MAGIC shifted in under pressure taking TOSSED AND TURNED (S Spratt) inwards.
RACE 7: DARLEY PLATE
C’EST LA VIE was examined and passed fit by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race after C’EST LA VIE had contacted the running rail in the Bird Cage.
SAHEEL (M Coleman) and LIPPERTY LIP (M Walker) came together when leaving the barriers.
ALBERCHENO (C Williams) was slow to begin.
C’EST LA VIE (M Hills) made the 600 metres turn awkwardly.
Passing the 100 metres C’EST LA VIE was disappointed for a run between KILOTON (O Bosson) and BACK IN BLACK (C Lammas) both of which shifted ground. In this incident C’EST LA VIE made contact with the hind quarters of BACK IN BLACK.
OCCIDENTALIS (J McDonald) and TAKING THE MICKEY (V Colgan) were held up over the concluding stages.
When questioned regarding the performance of ATAPI M Rodd stated that he got further back than he intended. However, with good early speed his horse travelled well in the run but when placed under pressure in the straight his mount did not respond strongly. A post race veterinary examination of ATAPI did not reveal any apparent abnormalities.
RACE 8: SINGER GROUP 1400
RURAL REBEL made contact with the fence when entering the Bird Cage and underwent a veterinary examination at the start and was passed fit to run.
BIBULOUS (J McDonald) and DANE FANTASY (H Kasim) were both slow away.
TARIQ (M Rodd) shifted inwards on jumping away making contact with ZEYTIN (M Sweeney).
TSARDURKA (M Du Plessis) over-raced in the early stages when steadied off the heels of MARZIA (M Coleman) near the 1200 metres.
PINSTAR (J Collett) raced three wide throughout
Passing the 100 metres CHEEKY RED (S Spratt) shifted out under pressure and made contact with RURAL REBEL (M Walker).
Trainer J Good reported that TARIQ pulled up lame in the near fore leg with a veterinary certificate of fitness now required prior to TARIQ racing next.
RACE 9: STELLA ARTOIS AUCKLAND CUP
WILLY SMITH (M Walker) and SIX O’CLOCK NEWS (J McDonald) were slow to begin.
Rounding the home turn EVERBRIGHT (M Rodd) was held up behind the weakening GRAND AFFAIR (A Peard).
Rounding the home turn HEZA KARMA KARZI (C Williams) was steadied when crowded for room between ZAVITE (D Oliver) and BOOMING (G Boss). D Oliver was advised to exercise care.
SIX O’CLOCK NEWS (J McDonald) rolled out under pressure in the final 200 metres.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of HEZA KARMA KARZI C Williams stated that in his opinion his mount did not run out the distance of today’s race and raced like a tired horse. A post race veterinary examination of HEZA KARMA KARZI did not reveal any apparent abnormalities. Trainer J Sargent advised that HEZA KARMA KARZI would now be spelled.
ZAVITE lost the off hind plate during the running.
SIX O’CLOCK NEWS lost the off fore plate during the running.
RACE 10: BARFOOT & THOMPSON MILE
HOT IN BLACK (G McKeon) was slow to begin.
EVEREADY TO DANCE (T Harris), HIGH COMMAND (J McDonald) and TWO UP (M Du Plessis) all began awkwardly.
BR Jones, the rider of SAND JEWELL, was issued with a warning for shifting in and steadying near the 1300 metres and causing EVEREADY TO DANCE to be awkward on its heels. EVEREADY TO DANCE then commenced to over-race.
Near the 1200 metres HOT IN BLACK was checked when crowded for room by CHARLIE BROWN (M Sweeney) which when over-racing was taken in by I’M A KING (L Innes). L Innes was advised to exercise care in similar circumstances.
I’M A KING continued to over-race in the middle stages of the race.
I’M A KING was held up rounding the home turn.
