VICTORY MORGAN (R Eynon) was slow to begin. BINKLEBONK raced keenly in the early and middle stages. RUM ‘N’ ICE (J Rathbone) commenced to over-race passing the winning post on the first occasion and had to be steadied for some distance. Passing the 800 metres LA VILENTE was checked when racing to the outside of VICTORY MORGAN which shifted out. Rider R Eynon admitted a breach of Rule 638 (1) (d) in that he shifted ground outward when not sufficiently clear. After consideration the Judicial Committee suspended R Eynon’s licence to ride in races from the close of racing on 9 September until the close of racing on 22 September. When questioned regarding the performance of RUM ‘N’ ICE, J Rathbone could offer no excuses.

All clear
RACE 6 – WAVERLEY HARVESTING/PEKO CONTRACTING 1200
PARTY HORSE (J Riddell) and MASK THE SHADOW (V Johnston) came together and bumped at the start. SANDY CLAWS (K Smith) hung inwards approaching the first turn and had to be steadied away from the heels of DOWN TOWN (H Tinsley) losing ground. PAKI PAKI (K Myers) was held up for several strides passing the 400 metres. MASK THE SHADOW lay out rounding the final turn and passing the 300m shifted out dictating DISDAIN (D Bradley) wider for a short distance. Apprentice Thamil Arumugam was issued with a warning with respect to the use of the whip prior to the 200 metres.
RACE 7 – SANDFORDS/GRANGEWILLIAM STUD 1200
THATSPRETTYFLASH was declared a late scratching at 1.27pm after sustaining superficial abrasions upon arrival at the course. MUZZA (R Hannam) began very awkwardly losing several lengths. FALCOURT (K Collins) began awkwardly then shifted out abruptly hampering ALVIN PURPLE (D Walker), SCISSOR SISTER (B Lammas) and TURFBURNER (J Parkes) which all lost ground. FALCOURT then commenced to race ungenerously and near the 1,100 metres shifted out again hampering SCISSOR SISTER which had to steady. FALCOURT continued to race ungenerously and near the 800 metres when being steadied was crowded for several strides while racing to the inside of CENTREFOLD (M Tanaka) which shifted in. M Tanaka was advised to exercise care. FASTNET ROCKETTE (L Allpress) lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.
RACE 8 – RD1 HAWERA/DONAGHYS LESSN 1200

GOLDEN DESTINATION (L Allpress) was crowded and lost ground shortly after the start when racing between THERULER and BABYDOLL (M Ward) which shifted out and away from TSINGANA (R Hannam) which was laying out. The Stewards ordered a veterinary examination of BABYDOLL which revealed no obvious abnormalities. MACSMALLPEE (R Myers) hung out from the 200 metres and had to be continually straightened.
RACE 9 – WANGANUI MOTORS 1650
ANUTHAHABIT (R Hannam) was very slow to leave the barriers. MARCEY’S BELT (L Allpress) was slow away. Rider B Lammas advised the stewards that TOBOUGGIE NIGHTS failed to handle the prevailing track conditions. ROSSI (V Johnston) had to steady momentarily passing the 150 metres when SIR NEIL (H Tinsley) shifted in. KEY WHIZ (M Tanaka) proved very reluctant to proceed to the barriers, and given that the gelding had been subject to similar issues in the past trainer T Collis was advised that the horse must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the stewards prior to racing again.
