Whosyourmaster due a change of luck
9 January 2014, 4:24 p.m.
The racing fortunes of the genuine Whosyourmaster may well take a turn for the better at Ellerslie this weekend.
The capable sprinter has been acquitting himself well from the top of the handicap in Rating 85 events and has also proved himself to be competitive against the best short-course performers in the top grade.
He was luckless last time out in the Listed Newmarket Handicap and this weekend’s Tip Top 1200 presents him with an ideal opportunity to add to his winning tally.
“He’s been going good races and he ran into Waterford when he had a big weight and then he came up against Little Wonder and Albany Reunion with topweight again,” said Andrew Scott, who prepares the five-year-old with Lance O’Sullivan.
Whosyourmaster gave the subsequent Gr.1 Railway Handicap runner-up Waterford four and a-half kilos when he ran second to her three starts back. He then carried 59.5kg when fourth, after being denied a run in the straight, to Little Wonder.
“His run in the Newmarket last time out was a solid effort after he drew a wide gate and went back to last,” Scott said. “The last 400 metres of his race was really good.”
Whosyourmaster weaved through the field late to finish less than two lengths off the winner and will be back in class and off the minimum on Saturday.
“His light weight will aid his chances no end, but it’s a good field and Fix has a wonderful record around Ellerslie and I’m sure Ken and Bev will have her ready to go,” Scott said.
“A similar performance to the Newmarket should make our bloke hard to beat and hopefully the small field will suit him as he gets back a bit.” – NZ Racing Desk.
