Black type beckons smart mare

2 November 2017, 1:25 p.m.

Stakes targets await the highly-regarded mare Whispering, who will resume at her local meeting on Friday.

She is prepared at New Plymouth by Allan Sharrock and he is expecting a bold showing from the daughter of Darci Brahma in The Grahame Cochrane, Bayleys Real Estate 1200m.

“She always races well fresh and she’s had one jump-out and won that,” Sharrock said.

“I scratched her when she drew 14 of 14 here last time and now she’s drawn seven of seven, but there looks like there’s lots of speed in the race.

“She’ll settle back and should be running on strongly.”

Sharrock has black type targets in mind this preparation for Whispering, who has four wins and four placings from her 10 starts.

“There’s the Wairarapa Breeders’ Stakes and the Anniversary, they look nice races for her and she’ll get a mile,” he said.

“Her mother (Instant Divorce) did and a bit further. I’d love to get black type for this mare and she’s good enough.”

Sharrock also rated the resuming Field Of Fire a strong hope in the Stella Artois Maiden (1200m).

“He ran second at Hawera to Blanco Belle, who then ran second in the stakes race at Wanganui, and he gave her 7.5kg that day,” he said.

“He was still a bit weak then so I turned him out and he’s come back and won two jump-outs, he’s a good chance as are the other three.”

Sharrock will also be represented by King’s Vee (Total Paint Supplies Maiden 1300m), Cottoneva (Waikato Equine Vet Centre 1400m) and Lady Style (Isabella Spiers 1400m). – NZ Racing Desk.
