Wellington Cup Carnival - 14, 21 and 28 January 2017

Super Saturday, Saturday 14 January

The opening day of the Wellington Cup carnival showcases what is traditionally one of the best racing days in New Zealand.  A high class racing programme, with three Group races, including the Group I Randwick Meats Levin Classic for the leading three-year-olds.

Wallaceville Estate Wellington Cup Day, Saturday 21 January

One of the standout days on the New Zealand racing calendar, with impeccably dressed spectators flocking to the biggest day of the summer carnival, which showcases New Zealand’s best stayers and sprinters.

The Wellington Cup, which has been run annually since 1874, is run over 3200m and tests the stamina and heart of the leading stayers, while the $250,000 Group I J & N Berkett Telegraph (1200m) is New Zealand’s richest open sprint.

But the racing is only part of the attraction of Cup Day, with fashion, fun and friends ensuring that it is a day that appeals to those with little or no knowledge of racing, as well as the true aficionados.

Interislander Summer Festival Family Day Races, Saturday 28 January

Treat the family to a day out at Trentham, at a meeting where the focus is on entertainment for the whole family, including heaps of activities for the kids.

But there will be no drop in the quality of the racing fare, with the programme including the Group I Harcourts Thorndon Mile, one of New Zealand’s premier 1600m races, and the Group III Wellfield Desert Gold Stakes for three-year-old fillies.
