Races, trials cancelled
8 September 2017, 2:51 p.m.
The Matamata meeting scheduled for next Wednesday has been cancelled due to a lack of entries.
At the closing of nominations, 38 horses had been entered for the fixture with the prospect of getting sufficient numbers to hold even a restricted meeting unlikely.
New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing will look to add or divide races to northern meetings in the near future.
Meanwhile, following an inspection of the Cambridge track today the trial meeting scheduled for next Tuesday has also been cancelled.
The track was walked by representatives of the club, the Racing Integrity Unit and trainers and they were unanimous in deciding the saturated track was not safe to hold a full set of trials.
